Progressive educators are still wrestling with the idea of what the relationship between progressive ideals and technology is. At the Ethical Culture School we work to be very thoughtful that our technology program is meaningful, child centered and projects are process oriented. We encourage students to assess their learning and choose the tools that are best for them.
In this session we will explore how to manage a classroom so that students can be in charge of their own learning. We will look at how teachers can use technology to differentiate instruction and encourage student choice. We will look at different tools students can use for note taking and project making and will suggest language educators can use to create this empowering classroom environment.
This hour-long workshop will be a Q&A based session to dig more deeply into topics addressed in the keynotes. Participants will have a chance to engage in a Today's Meet chat to ask direct questions pertinent to their teaching environment and explore ways to apply concepts from the keynote.
Simple "Integration" of technology does not work! Technology's greatest impact on education is when technology introduces "new" possibilities for learning. We will walk through a new kind of professional development model focused on the SAMR model with specific examples for teachers to utilize in "Tomorrow's Lesson" and a process to improve throughout a school year and beyond.
Tablet devices are unique technologies that provide new, previously inconceivable opportunities for learning. In this session, Scott Meech will discuss what makes these devices unique and how they are redefining learning. He will share specific examples and ideas that are being used to fully implement these devices with students, based on their own professional experience. Participants will walk away with specific strategies for capturing learning with an iPad that will allow teachers to finally differentiate effectively.
